MUTO was a wholly owned trading subsidiary of Falcon Support Services. The name means to change or transform in Latin, which we felt represented the ethos of the project.
We worked with Trading Standards to recycle and reuse seized counterfeit goods. These items were transformed by debranding and creatively rebranding them with our new brand MUTO. We worked with clothing, footwear, makeup and handbags inspired by high-end brand names.
The MUTO project aimed to teach new skills to the most marginalized and disadvantaged people in our community. We taught people sewing skills, IT skills, retail and business skills, which then contributed to developing the textiles trade in Loughborough and the surrounding area. This project was proven to improve self-esteem and confidence, provide positive activities and reduce isolation.
All MUTO products were sold through our retail shop, online and at various community events. Proceeds went directly to Falcon Support Services.
As a development to the project, we acquired the ex-Kath Kidston tour bus which was already kitted out with rails and display boards, and took the show on the road, selling the goods at festivals and local events as well as running textile workshops on the bus.
